The Color of the Sun - Image Analysis of NASA Solar Imagery

Web Application

This work derives a colour from the sun via the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory. A program accesses a list of the most recent recent images from the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory an retrieves all images are all taken at a wavelength of 304 angstroms (0.0000000304 m - Extreme Ultra Violet). (This wavelength of imagery is especially suited to visualising the upper chromosphere and lower transition region of the sun.)

For each image the program examines gets an average colour value for the central region of the sun. This colour data is updated to the webpage as it is needed. In this way the work is able to visually transpose the behaviour sun, into a visually accessible and coherent spectrum of hues.
